Wait for it

Tonight and tomorrow should get good results with snow expected down to 600m.

As it is today Baw Baw has only Magic Carpet operating for lessons and beginners. An average depth of 8cm and 22cm man made so holding onto a good solid base but too inconsistent for skiing today. Tomorrow should be a ripper though so stay tuned.

St Gwinear has patchy snow at elevation but not enough to ski on, but as with Baw Baw is expecting snow for the next few days and should be excellent by the weekend.

Snow on the way

A little rain overnight but luckily a lot less than Falls Creek who recorded 150mm at Spencer creek station.......Interested to see how that has affected them.

Anyway.....as it stands Baw Baw and Saint Gwinear are both in line for solid, blizzard like conditions over the next 48 hours setting us up for an amazing weekend. Over 30cm forecast and it looks increasingly likely to happen.

Today Baw Baw has 12cm natural, 27cm man made, 3/7 lifts turning (cheap tickets today) and tobogganing on Lower Big Hill for the young and young at heart.

St Gwinear has shut both toboggan runs pending more snow fall and only offers poor cross country skiing for those willing to walk a loooonnnnggggg way.

Beat the crowds

Baw Baw still has an average of 16cm across the resort and 31cm in key areas. 4/7 lifts are turning and there is nobody about. Chuck a sicky and ride the lifts all day without waiting. Fair snowplay and tobogganing on Big Hill.

St Gwinear has patchy cover at the car park suitable only to snow play

Forecast snow for Thursday through Saturday should produce some good totals again

Incoming snow

The forecast is looking juicy once again so hold onto your hats for later in the week.

Today at Baw Baw there will be 4 lifts turning (the usual suspects) with 18cm average snow depth and 33cm average on the slopes. A temporary toboggan run has been set up on the bottom of Big Hill so still plenty of life left in the toboggans.

St Gwinear has shut their toboggan runs but there is still a little left on the play area and up the walking trail for sight seeing and skiable snow across the plateau with a few patches appearing but holding in

A little wet

A bit of rain overnight but we still have snow.

Baw Baw has 21cm natural average depth and 36cm man made in key areas. Some hard work overnight to shovel snow back onto drag lines means we still have 4/7 lifts turning. (Hut, Tank, Summit and Carpet) Waiting on a decision on toboggans but expect Frosti to be closed.....Hopefully Big Hill will open to toboggans but check with staff.

St Gwinear suitable for the little ones with limited tobogganing on the middle play area at the car park. Still fair to good skiing once up the trail. Watch out for the Tullicouty Cup competitors today on the skis racing past

Baw Baw or bust

More windy warm weather yesterday has taken St Gwinear out of the equation for anything but snow play.

Baw Baw has 27cm average natural snow. 42cm man made in key areas. 4/7 lifts turning (Tank, Hut, Summit and Carpet)all rated good to very good. Frosti hollow is open for toboggans but rated Fair only. Great snowplay

St Gwinear has shut both toboggan runs due to insufficient cover. Just a few centimetres left at the car park. Poor cross country skiing, more suited to snow shoes due to lack of cover up top

22 degrees, Strong winds.......yesterday

As mentioned the warm temps and high winds knocked things around but we had such good snow early this week that we are still in business. Baw Baw has 30cm of natural snow, 45cm in key areas with man made. 4/7 lifts including Tank, Hut, Summit and Carpet. Both toboggan runs are open but only rated fair. Excellent snow play and sight seeing

St Gwinear took a hit, losing half of its snow in 24 hours due to the warm conditions. Currently 10cm at the car park. 20cm average across the plateau. Fair to good cross country skiing and 1 toboggan run open.

A few snow showers forecast today with a top of 1 degree forecast

Blue bird days

Warm and sunny up top today softening things considerably. We need some nice cold nights to freeze things up. As it stands Baw Baw has 30cm natural 50cm man made. 4/7 lifts and both toboggan runs open

St Gwinear has good snow play conditions at the car park and soft snow for skiing. Both toboggan runs open with 20cm at the car park and complete cover across the plateau averaging 38cm

Sooooo goooooodddddd

I spent the day uo at Baw Baw yesterday and the conditions are so good I want to go back. 37cm of natural snow across the resort and 53cm in key areas. 5/7 lifts operating all rated excellent except for Maltese rated Very good. Tobogganing and snowplay rated excellent with plenty of soft snow across the resort for lots of fun.

St Gwinear has 25cm at the car park. 40cm average across the plateau. Excellent cover for cross country skiing and snow shoes plus both toboggan runs are open as well as the food van.

Seasons best just got better

Truly a powder day today on the mountain. Its so good, I'm going boarding.

Baw Baw picked another 15cm of fresh dry powder bringing totals to 37cm of natural snow and the man made stuff has cracked 1/2 a metre with 53cm in key areas. It is the best day of the season so far..... There will be 5/7 lifts operating.

St Gwinear got hammered yesterday too but I don't have a firm total but expect similar numbers. At least 15cm at the car park 40cm plus up around the rock shelter. Excellent skiing and snow shoeing. AMAZING snowplay and tobogganing. See you all there

Fitting chains at time of report.
