More Huskies

That's right, the huskies (and others) are still up at Baw Baw today and racing about. Everyone watching the event yesterday loved them. So enthusiastic to race. Get on up there and into position to watch them take off, its an amazing sight.

If snow is more your thing Baw Baw is holding onto 4cm of natural snow and 14cm of man made. 3 lifts running (Tank, Hut and Carpet). 1 toboggan run in operation today.

St Gwinear has no snow. Toboggan runs are closed and trails are more suited to snow shoes. Baw Baw is the go if you want to toboggan on something other than mud

Howling Huskies

This weekend is al about the Huskies at Baw Baw with a huge competition to see who has the quickest team. Jake and the team from Howling Huskies will have the home ground advantage but with 200 dogs up there anybody could win.

Between races the huskies will be in car park 2 for meet and greet with the public so head on up and get a photo with some beautiful working dogs.

Don't forget there is snow there at Baw Baw as well with 3 lifts running. An average of 10cm of natural snow and 20+ man made for you to enjoy. Toboggan runs are open and overall resort conditions are fair to good.

St Gwinear will be updated after 10am but we had a little rain overnight. Parks staff will be in attendance but likely to just have 1 toboggan run open for now but expect the usual mud pit at the bottom. Skiing is poor and will require you to walk occasionally to avoid the usual spots around view point.

Feeling sore

After a day at Mount Baw Baw yesterday I am showing my age but I can personally vouch for the conditions up there. The staff have worked very hard to get Tank Hill and Hut Run in great shape. They have been shifting snow keeping it all together for us. I had excellent runs on both lifts yesterday and came home exhausted.

If you are coming up there is 12cm of natural snow at Baw Baw. 24cms of man made on the runs mentioned above. 2 toboggan runs are in use aand the cross country trails while requiring some rock hopping on occasion do have just enough for skiing.

St Gwinear has 8cms at the car park and the toboggan runs are open. I will update as soon as Parks Vic staff give me details.

Im off to the snow

Finally we have a reasonable cover of snow at Baw Baw.....therefore I'll see you all up there today.

Baw Baw picked up another 4cm in the last 24 hours bringing totals to 12cm of fresh and 24cm of man made. Tank Hill, Hut Run and Magic Carpet are turning today and 2 toboggan runs are open. Very good snow play conditions and the sun should be out.

St Gwinear has about 9cm at the car park, both toboggan runs are open. Fair skiing on the main trail.

Expect to fit chains today

Wicked Wednesday

Baw Baw has some great skiing and boarding on offer today with 10cm of natural snow and 20cm of man made plus the chance of snow falling today to low levels.

3 lifts operational (Hut, Tank and Carpet) plus half price lift tickets. Very good snowplay and tobogganing however the cross country trails are pretty ordinary.

St Gwinear had about 9cm at the car park and both toboggan runs open (no muddy toboggans returning yet, so it seems to be holding together ok. Cross country skiing is poor to fair on a very thin base

Snow, glorious snow

Fresh falls overnight mean conditions are perfect.

Baw Baw has picked up 5cm of fresh snow bringing their natural base to 10cm. They also got the opportunity to make snow and have an excellent 20cm base on Tank Hill and Hut Run with both those lifts turning today.....plus Magic Carpet.

They have opened up all but Village trail for cross country and tobogganing and snowplay are excellent.

St Gwinear has hopefully picked up some snow as well. As it was yesterday though they had 9cm at the car park with one toboggan run open and good snowplay. Will update as soon as I get official word

Snow expected

Baw Baw has up to 9cm of snow on two runs today. Hut Run and Tank Hill plus Magic Carpet operating. 5cm of natural snow and and overall resort rating of very good on fresh snow.

St Gwinear has 9cm at the carpark and one toboggan run open. Still not enough for x country skis but the forecast has bits and pieces all week so hopefully there will be enough by next weekend.

Wheel chains are being fitted

Fresh snow

Baw Baw got 5cm of fresh snow yesterday. That has allowed them to open Tank Hill, Hut Run and Magic Carpet. Frosti Hollow is open for toboggans and the resort has an overall rating of good.

St Gwinear has 9cm at the car park but a little more at elevation. Still not enough for skis but excellent snow play and 1 toboggan run open.

More in the forecast for tomorrow and the next few days so hopefully we will start to build a base.

Snowing

That's right, snowing. Only 4cm so far but lots forecast throughout the day. Expect to fit wheel chains.

Baw Baw has the lifts on standby so they will open if conditions allow. In the meantime snowplay and tobogganing should be great. Lots of snow throughout the day so it will be beautiful

St Gwinear likely has 5cm at the car park, 1 toboggan run open and fitting chains

Incoming snow

This looks very good over the next few days. 40+cms forecast. Persistent snow and a low freeze point should see lots of action on both mountains.

Brush up on your chain fitting skills as you will be putting them on this weekend (yes even 4wd likely)

As it stands.......

Baw Baw patchy snow. 20cms of man made on Tank hill. Magic carpet running and frosti hollow for toboggans. It is going to be wet today until later tonight when the cold front comes through and turns it to snow.

St Gwinear has zero snow at the moment but hopefully will have some by tomorrow morning. Stay tuned
