In line with current government policy all patrons visiting resorts in Victoria must present a negative Covid test from within 3 days.

Baw Baw will be asking for proof of this and will not allow you in the gate without evidence.

Baw Baw also has a booking system which caps numbers to 300 so be sure to get online and book your entry before leaving home as it is unlikely to happen once you are at the gate.

We aren’t required to see this evidence and will presume that everyone in our shop is covid free. If you have any symptoms, please stay home and get tested. In the shop you are required to wear a mask and register via the Service Vic QR code system.

If you get turned around at the gate for any reason (Not booking, symptomatic, no test result) we will NOT offer refunds as we still have to handle, sanitise, launder equipment inline with our covid safe handling guidelines, so make sure you have done all the right things prior to getting as far as us.

The Tourist Road to Baw Baw remains closed and is unlikely to open this season, meaning we are the only option on the way to BB and St Gwinear. Please book chains online as we expect to be busy. If you have never used the South Face Rd to get to BB you will never go back the other way again. It is 25km of gravel, however it is well maintained and suitable for all vehicles (even sports cars) but you will get the pride and joy dirty

Baw Baw remains open for white season operations. There is a little pile of snow in front of Village Central for the kids to play with but there is no tobogganing or skiing etc to be had.

The clean up continues and we remain hopeful that they will be able to push out the man made snow this weekend for limited skiing and boarding.

Mount Saint Gwinear remains closed as the access road still hasn’t been cleared

Please be aware several roads remain closed in the area.

  • Tourist Road from Icy Creek to Baw Baw resort -CLOSED

  • Thomson Valley Road from South Face Rd to beyond Thomson dam -CLOSED

  • Walhalla Road -Closed to all except emergency services and residents

South Face road is open and clear to Baw Baw resort so if travelling up there via Erica is the only option.

St Gwinear unlikely to open this week.

Baw Baw has postponed opening weekend activities until next weekend 19/06/21

The resort is open with restaurant and hotel plus accommodation.

Opening day

Opening day

Conditions are currently pretty wet.. Given the recent and continued extreme weather event the natural snow has been completely wiped out by nearly 300mm of rain..

Baw Baw has piled some near Village Central for the kids to have a snowball fight and facilities including the Alpine Hotel are open for business.

Wheel chains are now required by law to be carried and fitted when directed so we are open with reduced hours for those braving the elements.

Mount Saint Gwinear remains inaccessible while Parks Vic and DELWP continue to work to regain access. We await word on how long that will be and cross everything that the damage from the storm is limited to fallen trees.

The Mount Baw Baw tourist Road remains closed so access is only past us and via the South Face Road (which is better anyway)

Opening

Good and bad news. I’ve just driven the length of the south face road to Baw Baw and it is in excellent condition.

Thomson valley road to Mt St Gwinear is closed with no word from Parks Vic but they do have an enormous amount of work on.

Mt Baw Baw Alpine Resort is open however there is no snow. Even the man made stuff remains in piles as the ground is too wet to push it out. They expect to have opening weekend from Saturday 19th.

The road from Icy Creek to BB remains closed

We will open tomorrow Saturday12th from 9am until 5pm just in case people have accommodation as wheel chains are still required by law, plus we will hire out clothing.

Weather warning

Current conditions are hectic. Multiple weather warnings in place. Please avoid unnecessary travel.

Incoming snow

The forecast for the next 2 days is snowy and cold. Please take care out there. Chains are going to be needed, conditions will be extreme. Be well prepared. See you all on Friday 11th June

First day of Winter

As we are still in lockdown there isnt much to report.

We are ready to go as soon as restrictions are lifted and are prepared for any eventuality (hopefully)

Baw Baw has been cranking the snow factories and it looks like they will have Frosti open for toboggans and Hutt Roll for skiing/boarding on opening weekend (whenever that may be)

Keep doing the right thing Victoria (and Australia) and we will see you all soon

Saturday snow

A cold front passing Victoria is bringing snow to the Baw Baw plateau.

Chains are required to be carried and fitted as directed at Mount Baw Baw.

St Gwinear remains unmanned and will be difficult to access in a 2wd. Be sure to pack the chainsaw if attempting to get to the car park as small trees are likely to block access.
